The Analytic Hour

Political essays by Yunus Poblome

The Analytic Hour hosts my writings as a student of politics. The platform shares the name of Sigmund Freud’s therapeutic sessions of psychoanalysis.

  • How masculinities give shape to international relations

Recently I read four works in an intriguing order. I started off with Kropotkin’s The Conquest of Bread. This marvel of political philosophy is not only seen as Kropotkin’s Magnum Opus (along with Mutual Aid), but also regarded as a guiding text into anarchist thought. Afterwards, I read Ivan Jablonka’s recent hit The History of…

  • Ferenc Hörcher – Art and Politics in Roger Scruton’s Conservative Philosophy

On the 16th of November I attended a book presentation on the most recent publication of Professor Ferenc Hörcher of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. This being: Art and Politics in Roger Scruton’s Conservative Philosophy. I have developed a newfound respect for the tradition of intellectual conservatism, even if I disagree with the large bulk…

Ever since starting my third and final year of political science at the VUB, the EU has been an inescapable topic of discussion for me for many years now. When…

“They are great blessings to have tender parents, dutiful children and to live under a just and well-ordered government.” – Seneca, On A Happy Life1 On the 9th of November 2023 the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) organised a free policy talk about the state of mental health in Europe and the EU’s involvement in…

About me

I hold a BSc (cum laude) in Political Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Currently, I am completing a MSc in Political Science (VUB) and a MSc in International Politics from Ghent University (UGent). Beside my studies, I serve on the Editorial Board of the European Relations Association where I help students and young professionals towards their first publication(s) on European affairs. Previously, I have interned with prof. Eline Severs in the REDIRECT EU Horizon project and held board positions in the Royal Association Olivaint Conference of Belgium and the Belgian parliamentary simulation Jeugd Parlement Jeunesse. While I have written most rigourously about the populist radical right and the Palestinian question, I am currently interested in studying the politics of outer space from a critical security studies perspective.
